GETHSEMANE
The grass never sleeps.
Or the roses.
Nor does the lily have a secret eye that shuts until morning.
Jesus said, wait with me. But the disciples slept.
The crickets have such splendid fringe on its feet,
and it sings, have you noticed, with its whole body,
and heaven knows if it ever sleeps.
Jesus said, wait with me. And maybe the stars did, maybe
the wind wound itself into a silver tree, and didn't move,
maybe
the lake far away, where once he walked as on a
blue pavement,
lay still and waited, wild awake.
Oh the dear bodies, slumped and eye-shut, that could not
keep the vigil, how they must have wept,
so utterly human, knowing this too
must be a part of the story.

Sparklers ablaze in suns delight
All holding strong to love in pure light
Shining their torches for all to see
The beautiful strength instilled so deep
Let in be seen, let it speak
Spread out yet surround in the summer eve
All together in blissful company
It may look dry
Yet the water is entrenched
Embedded into it’s very existence
Those who walk these trails will not grow weary
The light gives courage where hope can feel scary
Tall pillars here to help lead the way
When the heat is pressing in on the really hot days
Sun lighting up the ones that are close
Encouraging one another to grow and grow and grow
The beauty that comes when the light shines just right
Revealing all the places where they have stood tall in the fight
As days come and go and time seems slow
Look out across the landscape and remember your not alone
Months turn to years and still returning
Each moment of growth is grace in learning
Reach for the light, Don’t let it grow dim
Let it lead the way, a well trusted friend.
They all look around and smile
The lm cool of the night gives rest to all
Then another day will dawn
And together all will continue pressing on

Golden fields
You are so far back in my mind
A time when I was young
And would travel anywhere at anytime
I was stranded in your dessert
I was found by my friends
We chewed on gummy snakes
And played frisbee until the day end
I remember the stars that you held in your skies
The light was not close
Nature lit up the night
Kangaroos and wallabies jumped around where we stayed
You were so long and I could see so far away
The speeds we could reach didn’t have a limit or cap
A tire flew off and one of our leaders had to travel back
We stayed in the dessert and made the most of what we had
Enough food and water and a place to lie our head
Traveling in the dessert was so out of reach
It was something I will always remember
It was the way that you spoke to without saying anything
