The Nook

It the memories you hold

Countless days and nights

The patience you held

As I would cling to you tight

The birds that would fly

Speaking with the wind

Whispering wisdom and singing to a friend

As the water laps against your walls

You comfort me and remind me,

I’m small. I settle into your pace, receive your key.

The white of the coral rocks that hurt to walk.

Yet how they soften my heart with one glance.

And all bearing intricate thought.

So many things that seemed so mundane.

Have become treasures in my heart,

That can’t be replaced.

The smell of the ocean and the salty air of my face

I can taste it on my lips and feel the grit after a long day

Of sitting with you, my skin marked by your light

Evidence of time well spent.

Evidence.

I will always hold on to this.

I am found in this nook

Where all becomes still

The water like glass

My heart matches the cadence

Rest from the hustle

A bike becomes a pass

My soul meets the colors

As the sun rises and sets

The ache of creation rising out of my chest

Through the years that have passed

Storms come and go

Seasons continue to change

The houses fall, rebuild

And get stronger in their frame

This remains the same

The steadiness here

Will never be replaced
